Take Us On: Market $1.55, Bet Legends $1.70

As always, Shaun Beirne isn't afraid to have a strong opinion, and he's attacking punters head on at Cranbourne

When Shaun Beirne frames a race, he's doing it as a form analyst, one with year's of experience that is happy to back their judgement.

He builds the market. He shapes the price. And then he asks one question.

Where is the edge?

Race 1 – Headbanger

Market: $1.55
Bet Legends: $1.70

“My ratings have her on top,” Shaun said. “But not by the margin the market is suggesting.”

Headbanger led last start and boxed on well before being run down late. Her two previous runs for Begg saw him slow away and settling midfield. If she jumps cleanly here, she likely rolls forward and controls the tempo.

The market says she wins comfortably at $1.55.

Shaun disagrees.

“At $1.55 you’re paying for perfection. I am not convinced she is lengths better than these.”

He expects Headbanger to find the front and potentially edge away from the inside in the straight. If she gets a soft lead, it could look straightforward.

And that brings us to the aggressive angle.

If you are with her, do not just take the short win quote.

Back Headbanger to win by 1+ Lengths at $2.80 in the Racing Specials.

“If she wins, she probably wins well. So why accept crumbs?”

Race 4 – Jareth

Jareth resumes off an extended break. The race pace looks moderate. Barrier 1 could mean he is buried midfield or worse on the inside.

“That is not where you want to be at Cranbourne,” Shaun said.

His ratings are in the ballpark. He is competitive on numbers. But this is a very tough race and there are map queries.

“You can make a case. But you can make a case for a few of them.”

Translation: he's under the odds at $2.70.

The Play

Headbanger is the most likely winner on the card according to the ratings.

But this is not about tipping. It is about price.

Take the $1.70 if you want the straight win.

Or lean into it and take the 1+ Lengths at $2.80 if you believe he controls the race.

As Shaun puts it:

“I am a bookie. I respect favourites. I do not worship them.”
