Stewards probe Shinn fall

Melbourne Cup winning jockey Jamie Melham faces a nervous wait after being the only rider the stewards questioned before adjourning the inquiry into Blake Shinn’s fall in the Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes on Tuesday.

Shinn fell at the 200m mark as his mount, She's Got Pizzazz, made its challenge to the inside of eventual winner Dance To The Boom, ridden by Kerrin McEvoy.

In their report into the fall, stewards noted: “An inquiry into the circumstances of the reasons for B. Shinn being dislodged near the 200m was adjourned to a time and date to be fixed after initial evidence was taken from Jamie Melham (Fancify [NZ]).”

The fall happened just over 90 minutes after Melham won the Melbourne Cup on Half Yours with a daring ride.

Fancify appeared to come out of a couple of horses under pressure before She’s Got Pizzazz clipped a heel and fell.

Shinn was taken to the hospital with a broken left leg, however, he remained conscious and sat up on the track and was given pain relief before being taken to the hospital.

"Thank you all for your kind messages after my fall. I’ve broken my leg and will be sidelined for a bit, but I’m very grateful that She’s Got Pizzazz is okay," Shinn posted on X on Tuesday night.

Stewards will wait for Shinn to be fit enough before reconvening the inquiry into the fall, which is likely to occur next week.
