Around The Grounds: Gibbo sets his sights on Morphettville

Gibbo’s Around The Grounds heads to Morphettville this weekend, and he rarely misses when he steps outside his Queensland home base.

A lot of eyes turn to South Australia for a quality day’s racing, with big fields and strong betting races. Gibbo is looking for the leading stables to dominate.

Race 4

#3 Blindedbythelight $3.10

I feel this is a very skinny race, to be honest. Cilicap and Terilee look the other chances. I just love what this horse did last prep, finishing it off with a close-up second at Group 3 level. She kicked this prep off by running second to Idle Flyer in a Group 2 at Rosehill, and that is super form. She can use the inside draw to her advantage, and this stable will have her spot on for this.

#6 New York Lustre $7.50/$2.70

You just know what you are going to get with her. She has won six of 14 and handles all ground. From the gate, they can be right on speed or just off the speed, which is where I’d like her. She has won both jump-outs leading into this and has a fantastic fresh record of 4:3-0-1.

Race 6

#16 Extragalactic $7.50

Gee, I’d love this to win for Trent Edmonds. Her two runs back have been breathtaking. You don’t have a turn of foot like hers and not win good races. The gate means she will get back and need a well-timed ride, but that acceleration will give her a chance. She ran the best last 400m and 200m of the meeting last start.

#3 Goldrush Guru $26/$6

Might be off the mark here, but this bloke has class on his day and I have not minded the trials/jump-out. He has had a few, and the mile fresh is a great option. Good gate, good jock and his best is way better than these. He has to spot a fair bit of weight to some of the main chances, but this price just seems very generous to me and worth a penny each-way late in the day.
