Brad Widdup knows what it takes to win a Belle Of The Turf and thinks he has it with Hyberbolic heading to Gosford on Sunday.

A winner of her two starts this preparation, Hyberbolic earned a shot at the Group 3, which was going to come eventually, according to her trainer.

When he looked back a couple of years to get a guide and remembered Melbourne trainer Mick Kent sending Deny Knowledge to him for the race.

“She arrived at our place and we saddled her. She was on her way up and it came at the right time for her, when she was in form,” Widdup said. “She went on to win a Group 1, a couple of years later, but she always had the talent.

“Hyberbolic is similar she's in-form and she's going to get to this level. With mares like her you want to take the opportunity when they come along at the right time.

“She is still on her way up, but this comes at a good time for her.”

Hyberbolic has won at 1400m and 1600m since returning from a spell and it encouraged Widdup to have a go at black type level rather than another Saturday race.

“She hasn't surprised me as such because I thought she was going really well when she came back,” Widdup said. “But we didn’t have this race in the program to start with, because she was so far down in the ratings.

“She is going to jump up in the ratings if she runs well, but I think her future is at this level and beyond.

“That’s why I draw the comparison with Deny Knowledge. She might not be a Group 1 mare, but I think she will win some nice races.”

Hyberbolic leads a good summer team for Widdup, which includes the classy Savvy Hallkie and Nashville Jack in the Magic Millions Sunlight next month.

“They are both going into the race first-up and have trialled well,” Widdup said.

“We have planned to be in the race for a while and they will run well.”
