Tasmanian Racing have confirmed an error was made in the Group 3 Hobart Cup on Sunday, with the barriers placed in the wrong position.

TasRacing put on a statement on Wednesday confirming the error, with an inquiry now underway.

Betsy understands the barriers were between 30m and 40m short of where they should have been.

The Cup was won by Blonde Star, in initially what was thought to be record time, and was decided by a photo finish.

‘’Tasracing has become aware that the starting position barriers for Sunday’s Hobart Cup were not placed in the intended position within the starting chute,’’ the statement said.

‘’As a result, the race was conducted marginally short of the stated 2,400-metre distance."

‘’While the result of the race stands, no objections were lodged following the running of the Hobart Cup and correct weight was declared."

‘’Tasracing is conducting its own inquiry and has also referred the matter to the Tasmanian Racing Integrity Commissioner for investigation."

‘’Tasracing will provide a further statement in due course, including details of steps it will implement to ensure the error does not occur again.’’

The error comes after a strong start to the Tasmanian summer carnival, with the Devonport Cup wagering up a staggering 30%.
