Gibbo’s Taking Them On

Blair Gibson puts his neck on the line with a few favourites he’s happy to risk this weekend. No fence-sitting, just straight talk.

Of course the Betsy analysts are here to tip winners but I guess it’s just as important to let you know what we are willing to take on. Easy way to look like a dill doing this article but you have to show some swingers and have an opinion, that’s what the job’s all about.

Eagle Farm Race 7 No.5 Champagne Lane ($3.30 fav)

Very competitive race and Gollan has four handy ones engaged. Nothing but respect for Matt Hoysted but this won a BM58 leading at the Sunshine Coast last start and this is a big jump in grade. The topweight is a proven horse at this level along with a few of Gollan’s. Hard to believe CHAMPAGNE LANE is fave.

Flemington Race 10 No.10 Hedged ($4.50)

Thought he was just OK and mixed form last prep. Good through the line fresh but I just don’t think that is the form for this race. STAR PATROL is an absolute jet down the straight and CABALLUS put the writing on the wall this prep with brilliant trials and an awesome first up run in a high quality race. Surprises me he is knocking on the door of favouritism.

Randwick Race 8 No.14 Autumn Glow ($1.90 fav)

No knock on the mare as she is a genuine star. Just feel she has had every possible thing suit so far this prep and this is clearly a harder task. Set weights is suitable for her but LINEBACKER set to peak and PANJA TOWER looks a very good one if it brings its best to Australia. She has had the perfect prep but I feel she will start even shorter and personally I just think that’s too short. (Won’t be leaving out of the quaddie or anything though).

Randwick Race 10 No.8 Polyglot ($3.50 fav)

This is one I left out of my quaddie. Has shown glimpses and can flash late but that is usually over 1100m. I feel 1200m just about sees this horse out and it will need the perfect JMAC ride to win at 1300m.  Has been $2.70, $3.80, $3.80 and $4.40 so far this prep and yet to win. Feel a few other have more upside and will be stronger late.
