Race 1 – No.6 Outranked ($12)
(6) OUTRANKED is prepared by Melbourne Cup-winning trainers John Symons and Sheila Laxon and looks a solid early play. She trialled well in Queensland back in May, narrowly beaten by a subsequent city winner, and moved stylishly in the process. Since coming south she hasn’t officially jumped out, but on the strength of that work she shapes as very competitive. The low draw early in the day is another big plus.

Race 3 – No.19 Born Survivor ($12)
This looks a thin race, which gives (19) BORN SURVIVOR a great chance to strike first-up. He showed ability last campaign with a sharp turn of foot despite finishing down the track in stronger races. His jump-outs this time in have been encouraging, and stepping straight to 1300m fresh should suit. From the wide draw he’ll drift back to near last, but Wangaratta often gives backmarkers their chance if the tempo is genuine. At double-figure odds, he looks well over the odds.
