Betsy's Bolters: The best at odds
Betsys Bolters

Flemington has the highest average winning SP of any track in Australia.

Sure, field sizes play a part - but Headquarters also throws up its fair share of surprises, including multiple 100/1+ winners in recent years.

Here are the big-odds runners we’re backing to land a blow on Saturday:

Race 3 – Backing 1. Bizot ($17) & 2. Capper Thirtynine ($21)

  • Bizot is a first-up winner, trialled up nicely, and takes a handy claim. She’s the class runner of the race and maps to be in the right spot.
  • Capper Thirtynine is drawn ideally out wide down the straight and has proven he can carry weight. Looks well set up to run a race at odds.

Race 6 – 3. Brayden Star ($34)

  • Better known over longer trips, but don’t forget he won over a mile on this day two years ago.
  • Looked sharp in a recent Cranbourne jump-out.
  • Maps for a reasonable run and can surprise fresh.

Race 7 – 4. Bandi’s Boy ($26)

  • His Star Kingdom run rates best of anything in this race - and that would win this.
  • Concussion plates off is a key gear change this prep.
  • Was OK late fresh; happy to spec at the price with a run under the belt.

Race 8 – Backing 8. Pudding ($14) & 15. Too Darn Discreet ($12)

  • Pudding was luckless last start and has been holding form well all winter. B. Shinn aboard is a major positive.
  • Too Darn Discreet struck a brutal race tempo first-up that didn’t suit. Much better set-up here and maps nicely.
