NSW Background (94)

WANGARATTA

Best Bets

Race 5 No.12 Grinzinger Pod

Race 6 No.10 Thinking Of Gerty (Best)

Turf Talk:

  • The rail moves out slightly on the back straight from the previous meeting and will be +5m from the 1000m to the 400m, +3m the remainder
  • Clear weather forecast through race day and the lead-up, with the track expected to present as a Good 4
  • Not expecting a strong bias, but favouring runners that can settle forward of midfield in the run

Race 5

GRINZINGER POD looks a chance to hit peak fitness here today, third-up into the prep off the back of two strong runs, finishing third on both occasions. This represents a step down in grade from those efforts, which should suit, and the fact she is racing on her home track may also be a factor. She looks well set up to find her best at this stage of the preparation.

(12) Grinzinger Pod
(16) Olatunde
(11) Tessa’s Choice
(7) Street Conqueror

Suggested bet: Grinzinger Pod (Win)

Race 6

THINKING OF GERTY resumes today and boasts an outstanding first-up record, having won all three of her previous first-up runs. She kicks this preparation off down in grade from where she finished last prep, which suits. From barrier four she maps well, with speed drawn outside her, allowing her to potentially take a sit just off the pace in a soft position. She looks very well set up.

(10) Thinking Of Gerty
(1) Condor
(7) Jahangir
(9) Reasonable Point

Suggested bet: Thinking Of Gerty (Win)

STONY CREEK

Best Bets

Race 5 No.1 Juice Box

Turf Talk:

  • The rail remains in the True position, as it has for the previous two meetings here
  • The track is currently rated a Soft 5, with clear conditions forecast but potentially not enough heat to see a meaningful upgrade
  • At the previous meeting under a similar setup, the track played fairly with winners coming from a variety of positions

Race 5

This almost shapes as a race in two between JUICE BOX and SCREAM, who both rate highly, but the preference is with JUICE BOX. She is suited dropping in grade from her last run and returns to a track where she has previously enjoyed good success (4:2-1-1). She maps to take up a positive position in the run and is adaptable on both soft and good ground, which should see her very competitive again.

(1) Juice Box
(2) Scream
(4) Heartattack Jack
(5) The Cruiser

Suggested bet: Juice Box (Win)
