Betsy's Best: Gawler
Gawler betsy best 0610
Race No Horse Type Overview
R3 11 Princess On Palm Best Bet Fast finish last start, suited on the quick back up and up in trip
R6 1 Costless Value 3rd up and peaking in fitness, maps for a soft on-speed run
R7 2 France’s Boy Veteran runner who is suited dropping in grade
Turf Talk:
  • Showers forecast to hit Gawler through Sunday night and Monday morning could see this track start as a Soft 5 come Race 1.
  • The rail returns to the true position for the first time since July; 5 of 9 winners that day came from lanes 5–7 in soft conditions.
  • Slight advantage to runners who settle midfield or better, but backmarkers can figure if the race shape suits.
The Stats That Matter:
  • Apprentice Brooke King has three rides today and boasts an excellent record at Gawler: 6 wins from 32 rides (18.8% strike rate) with a +160.9% POT.
Race 3 No.11 – Princess On Palm
(11) Princess On Palm is on the quick back up having raced last Sunday at Strathalbyn. On paper she didn’t appear well suited in that race with a negative race map from a wide barrier, but she managed to put in a big performance late running the 6th fastest L600m & 2nd fastest L400m of the meeting. Drawn softer here today and rising in trip is an ideal set up.
Race 6 No.1 – Costless
(1) Costless has mixed his form to kick off this campaign but gets here 3rd up and fitter now where he has previously had success at this stage of a prep. In his last three 3rd up runs he has found improvement so with a soft race map for him here, where he looks likely to get a soft lead, he gets the ideal set up to find his better form and could prove hard to catch with a soft lead.
Race 7 No.2 – France’s Boy
The veteran (2) France’s Boy is always a solid competitor in races and, after a win back in July, he has stepped up in grade for his last 4 starts. He is dropping back in grade to a 0-56 rating race and maps to push forwards and settle in a prominent position, expect with this set up he can find enough improvement to be a winning chance.
