The rail is out 8m, which typically provides runners coming wide around the home bend every opportunity - more so than when the rail is in closer. With dry conditions expected on a Soft deck, anticipate an even playing field where momentum and positioning in the straight will be key.

Race 3 – Maiden Plate 1600m

Backing 8. Xtra Rush and 9. Almago

Xtra Rush is on debut as a 5YO but has had several jump-outs under his belt. He’s always shown talent in his work, but his latest effort with the blinkers on was particularly sharp. Getting straight to the mile should suit, and with Ethan Brown aboard, expect him to roll forward and make his own luck.

Almago didn’t get much room here on debut and arguably should’ve finished much closer. She’s been scratched a couple of times since but lands in a very winnable race. Likely to get back from the wide draw but will be strong late.

Race 4 – Fillies & Mares Maiden 1100m

Backing 7. Kiwi Harmony

This debutante, by Kiwi stallion Ardrossan, has gone stride-for-stride with Ole Dancer in recent jump-outs and more than held her own. She maps to get a lovely run just off the speed from a soft draw and looks well-placed to strike on debut in a moderate race.

The main dangers are well found in the market — Lovecats and Zou Doll both bring race-day experience, but Kiwi Harmony brings the right blend of professionalism and upside.

Race 5 – BM58 Handicap 1200m

Backing 7. Never A Thought (Each-Way)

Never A Thought maps to land outside the lead — likely alongside Murmullo — and from there, should be mighty hard to get past. While this is a small step up in grade, she beat Satin Diva fair and square last start, and that filly has since won again as a short-priced favourite.

I was surprised by the $7.50 that went up early — and even with some correction, she looks a terrific each-way bet.
